Wonder

Wonder breaks open any moment when something is noticed—be it something seen or invisible to our human eyes.

The thinnest possible crescent of the moon on a clear night. The delight when a powerful opening sentence for a writing I've been pondering for weeks mysteriously appears on first waking. The slow turning of leaves from green to brilliant red in the fall. The sigh of my heart when I see possibilities where I had once seen only chaos. The peace of a child at sleep who is always on the go when awake. The vibration that fills my body when I know I am connected to the sacred mystery at the heart of everything—where even words like "God" or "Spirit" feel so inadequate.

For me wonder is the connection point between spirit and earth. Each of us experiences that point in her or his own way and language. Mine is rooted deeply in the Christian tradition—and thus that is the language I will use to dip my toe into wonder.

That's me. How do you experience wonder?
